The Protective Revolution of Underpads: From Basic Absorption to Precise Protection

While seemingly simple, underpads are actually "invisible defense lines" in medical care. Their technological upgrades and standardized application are directly related to patient safety. From early cotton padding to today's multi-functional composite materials, underpads have developed a multi-dimensional protective system.

The core of modern underpads lies in their layered collaborative design. The surface layer mostly uses natural materials such as bamboo fiber, which achieves natural antibacterial effects through the component of bamboo green copper sodium, avoiding allergy risks caused by chemical antibacterial agents. The middle absorption layer is the technical key: imported SAP (Super Absorbent Polymer) water-absorbent resin can quickly lock in liquids, and the bionic gradient pore membrane prevents the backflow of exudate through a one-way diversion structure. Such designs have been proven to shorten wound healing time by nearly 5 days. The bottom nano-microporous membrane achieves "breathable but not liquid-permeable" performance, with a breathability index of up to 53%, effectively inhibiting bacterial growth.

The new National Standard GB 15979—2024, implemented in 2025, further strengthens the safety baseline: it prohibits the use of recycled materials, strictly controls the residue of fluorescent brighteners, and adds new testing indicators for pH value and toxicology. This means qualified underpads must pass more stringent safety verification, eliminating risks such as formaldehyde release from inferior chemical fibers at the source.

The key to scientific use lies in scenario adaptation. For preventing pressure ulcers in bedridden elderly, airbag pressure-reducing underpads should be selected to reduce local pressure to below the critical value of 32mmHg. For post-operative wound care, functional underpads loaded with curcumin are suitable, which can reduce scar formation by more than 50%. For daily care, attention should be paid to the replacement frequency of 4-6 hours to avoid infections caused by moisture.

From material innovation to standard upgrades, every advancement in underpads is an important safeguard for patients' dignity and safety.
